Frequently asked questions

What is the SCITT approach to teacher training?
On our school-centred course you are immersed in schools for 100% of the time. Within the first week you start a 3 to 4 day a week placement in your identified school. For the rest of the week you join your peers in focused training sessions, held in schools across Bradford, that help you improve your practice.
What qualifications will I gain?
When you complete the primary course successfully you gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and potentially a Masters-level PGCE awarded by Sheffield Hallam University. These are identical to the qualifications you would gain on a university course.
What are the entry requirements?
You need a degree and GCSE grade C (4) or above in Maths and English Language or Literature, plus a grade C (4) in Science or equivalent for all primary courses. You need these by the time you start, not when you apply. Equivalency tests are accepted from certain providers, and overseas qualifications are welcome where equivalent, checked through ENIC.
What experience do I need?
There is no prerequisite for school experience. For the school-funded route we look for around three years of work experience, primarily with children but not necessarily in a school setting.
Who finds my school placement?
We arrange your placement, very likely in one of the great Bradford schools we work with, around 50 in total. If you have links with a specific school, or a particular reason for wanting a placement there, we can discuss it with you.
What is the difference between fee-funded and school-funded routes?
The fee-funded route is an unsalaried placement in a school. On a school-funded placement you are employed by the school and receive a salary from them.
How much does it cost and what funding is available?
From September 2025 course fees are £9,790, payable with a student loan from Student Finance England. You may also apply for a maintenance loan towards living costs.
